Finally got it figured out.The onboard HDMI sound on the card was just over-riding the auto-detect feature for the motherboard. Anyone have any ideas on this? Well crap cause I can only get stereo through the HDMI using Blur Ray. I just went into the BIOS and changed the onboard sound option to "Enabled" instead of "auto-detect." With the exception of the 5xxx series which doesn't need a converter because it has native HDMI outputs. Windows then automatically downloaded a set of HDMI drivers for sound and I am still left with zero options. and there is no quality difference from using the adaptor, to native HDMI.
