EDIT: There are some Yamaha PCI sound cards you can get with true YMF262s integrated within the ASIC. Hmm does true dos make any different how speedy the machine is? i'm gonna peek around ebay at old parts for a bit for a 486-ish option. In general, you should stay away from anything based off the Ensoniq AudioPCI chipset and the SoundBlaster Live! this

If you want a good PCI sound card, get a Yamaha YMF724 or Yamaha YMF74x. VDMSound works with any soundcard, and will even work on computers that have no audio hardware at all (for instance, instead of outputting sounds through your soundcard using the standard Windows drivers.
